Core Engine Release 5.9

May 2026

We upgraded! What's new? Learn more about new features, technical changes and solved bugs in 4App Core Engine.

Note on upgrading: If you skip a version when upgrading, check all release and patch notes in between for important information. They apply cumulative.
Note on individualization: If your 4ALLPORTAL is highly customized or if you installed individual apps, please contact your implementation partner before upgrading. We recommend checking your custom contents, especially layouts and object renderers, carefully after an upgrade.

New Features

Preserve Search Results in Selection Pop-Ups

Selection (ReferenceFind) pop-ups now preserve the selected objects when a new search is performed within the pop-up. Resetting or refreshing the search keeps the selected entries available. The total number of selected items is displayed at the top.
Please note: To add entries from a new search result to the existing selection, users must hold down the STRG/CTRL key while selecting them.

Configurable Click-to-Unselect Behavior

A new user profile setting gives users control over how selections are cleared in result lists. The existing behavior remains unchanged by default: clicking between selected objects removes the current selection.
Please note: Users who frequently work with larger selections can disable this behavior in their personal settings to avoid unintentionally losing selected items: System settings > General > Allows removing object markers by "clicking away".

Technical Changes & Admin Instructions

User License Type Default Value for Roles

The User License Type field for roles now uses "Default" as the predefined standard value. All existing customer roles are initialized with "Default," and the "Default" option is preselected for all newly created roles. Please note: Existing user roles of types Standard and Consumer are migrated to "Default".

Persistent Dimensions Across Multiple Instances

We have added a JDBC-backed cache infrastructure to support persistent dimension permission caching across application restarts. This way, role-based dimension permissions will be taken into account across multiple instances, too.

API: Generate Subsequent Preview Sizes Automatically

For API endpoint PUT /modules/{module}/objects/{id}/media/{type}, we have added the new optional boolean parameter updatePreviewSubsequence. When set to true (with index 0), uploading a preview image will automatically generate all subsequent smaller preview sizes (e.g., uploading "large" will also generate "medium" and "small").

Solved Bugs

  • Fix duplicate values appearing in list and dimension query results
  • Fix the missing frame of buttons in some pop-ups
  • Fix the not working response to value changes made via a switch component (boolean)
  • Fix obsolete error messages after deleting module configuration objects caused by problems with repeated search requests
  • Fix date/time parsing for 4APQL to support ISO datetime strings
