# Welcome to Authentication Provider LDAP Documentation!
4App Authentication Provider LDAP lets the 4ALLPORTAL access directory services using the LDAP protocol. This allows to login to the 4ALLPORTAL using a user's identity stored centrally in the directory service (e.g. in Microsoft Active Directory). This is not only faster, but also more secure.
When logging in to the 4ALLPORTAL for the first time, the data stored for a user in the directory service is used to automatically create a user in the 4ALLPORTAL.
After installation, a new admin snap-in for configuration is available.
4App Move
The features of 4App Authentication Provider LDAP are part of 4App Core Engine from Core version 4.4.
If you work with Core Engine version 4.4 or higher, you do not require to install this 4App.
